Alpina Is Making The M3 Wagon BMW Refuses To Build

Aug. 29, 2019 7:15 PM ET by Martin Bigg Teaser / 1 Comment Sadly, it will be forbidden fruit in the US. A few weeks ago, we got our first look at the new Alpina B3 to ease the wait for the next-generation BMW M3. Based on the G20 BMW 3 Series, the Alpina B3 was spotted with a new front bumper, a different rear spoiler, and unique wheels. But before the sedan breaks cover, Alpina will reveal the new B3 Touring wagon at the 2019 Frankfurt Auto Show in September, shown for the first time in a new shadowy teaser photo. It's not very revealing, but it's easy to imagine what it will look like since the new 3 Series Wagon has already been revealed. Based on the M340i Touring, Alpina's new wagon will be spiced up with exterior enhancements such as a body kit, quad exhaust tips, and special alloy wheels. Alpina CarBuzz CarBuzz Under the hood, the standard M340i Touring's 3.0-liter turbocharged, straight-six engine delivers 369 horsepower, so Alpina's modified version will likely have at least 400 horsepower on tap. Effectively, this will be the closest we're likely to get to an M3 wagon, as BMW refuses to make a Touring version of the M3. Joining the B3 Touring at Frankfurt will be Alpina's XD3 and XD4 SUVs, as well as the B7 and the B5 Bi-Turbo Touring, which is currently the world's fastest production wagon. CarBuzz CarBuzz CarBuzz Question is, will the Alpina B3 Touring be available in America? Highly unlikely. BMW no longer sells the 3 Series Touring in the US, and Alpina is only planning to sell larger models that are more likely to appeal to US customers like the B7 based on the BMW X7. If you really want to drive a high-performance German wagon on US streets, the good news is that the Audi RS6 Avant is finally coming to America for the first time. CarBuzz CarBuzz
