Porsche Taycan' s High-Tech Cabin Is Stunning

Aug. 23, 2019 9:00 AM ET by Martin Bigg Interior / 17 Comments The Taycan's interior is heavily inspired by the original 911's, but with a modern twist. Just last week, Porsche gave us a sneak peek of the Taycan's interior while confirming the electric sedan will be the first production car to fully integrate the Apple Music streaming service. Now, Porsche has fully revealed the Taycan's hi-tech cabin ahead of the car's debut in September, and it looks very sleek. "Less is more applies here, too," explained Ivo van Hulten, Director Interior Design Style Porsche at Porsche AG. "The Taycan interior combines design elements typical for the brand with a new type of user experience, and impresses with its simple elegance." Porsche Porsche According to Porsche, the Taycan's driver-focused interior was inspired by the original 911's clean dashboard but with a modern twist. A fully digital instrument cluster features a curved 16.8-inch screen that has four display modes. Classic mode mimics the rounded instruments typical of Porsche, while a power meter replaces the rev counter in the middle instrument. Map mode replaces the central power meter with a map layout, while Full Map mode replaces the round instruments with a navigation map displayed across the full display. Pure Mode, on the other hand, only displays essential information such as speed, traffic signs and navigation. Small, touch-control fields at the edges of the screen also operate the light and chassis functions. Like the original 911, the instrument cluster is wider than the steering wheel. Speaking of which, two steering wheel models are available: standard and GT. While the standard version can be customized with colored inserts, the optional GT sports steering wheel has a distinctive design with visible screw heads and a round mode switch that can be used to select the various driving modes. Porsche Porsche Elsewhere, the upper and lower sections of the dashboard stretch across the entire width of the vehicle in the shape of a wing. A wide, central 10.9-inch infotainment display dominates the dashboard and there's also an optional passenger display for the first time, allowing them to adjust settings without distracting the driver. User interfaces have also been re-designed for the Taycan with less physical switches and buttons and a greater reliance on touch or voice control. Apps include navigation, telephone, media, comfort and Porsche Connect, which are accessed through a customizable home screen. The center console also features a large 8.4-inch touch panel with haptic feedback, allowing the air-conditioning settings to be altered directly. Integrated handwriting recognition also allows quick address inputs. Porsche Porsche Porsche Like the Porsche 918 Spyder, the Taycan has a compact transmission shift position selector switch in the instrument panel instead of the classic transmission shift selector lever, and even air vents have been modernized as airflows can be controlled digitally and fully automatically. An additional 5.9-inch touch control panel with haptic feedback allows the optional four-zone automatic climate control system to be operated from the rear seats. Customization options will include classic leather and" sustainably tanned Club Leather" dubbed 'OLEA', which uses olive leaves in the tanning process. Alternatively, you can opt for a fully leather-free interior with a "Race-Tex" material consisting of recycled polyester fibers. The floor covering uses the recycled fiber "Econyl", which is made from recycled fishing nets among other things. Interior colors exclusive for the Taycan include Black-Lime Beige, Blackberry, Atacama Beige and Meranti Brown, while an optional interior accent package offers a choice of contrasting color schemes in black matt, dark silver or neodyme. The doors and center consoles can be finished in wood trim, matte carbon, embossed aluminum or fabric. Porsche Porsche
