2020 Honda Civic Hatchback Reminds Us Manuals Still Matter

Aug. 18, 2019 8:00 PM ET by Martin Bigg / 3 Comments One of the segment's best hatchbacks returns with numerous upgrades inside and out. Last year, Honda gave the Civic Sedan and Coupe a refresh for the 2019 model year, so it was only a matter of time before the Civic Hatchback was also given the facelift treatment. For the 2020 model year, the Honda Civic Hatchback has been updated with fresh exterior and interior styling, new tech, and more trims available with a manual transmission.
In terms of styling updates, the 2020 Civic Hatchback looks more aggressive thanks to a new body-color crossbar added the lower bumper fog light housings. Honda's "wing" grille crossbar has also been updated, and the headlights have been given the blackout treatment for a sportier look. Similar changes can be found at the rear, as the lower bumper openings now feature a new body-color crossbar. All trims feature new wheel designs available in either dark gray or black, while Sport Touring trims also feature improved LED headlights with wider and longer light beams. Honda Honda Honda Inside, each trim level is distinguished by new dash trim. Sport trims receive a new geometrical pattern, while LX and EX trims get a new painted pattern and EX-L and Sport Touring feature an exclusive brushed black treatment. The EX trim also adds an 8-way power driver's seat in place of manual adjustments, plus a new leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob. Sport Touring trims also now come with Honda's HomeLink garage-door opener, and can now be equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission for the first time. All Civic Hatchbacks also benefit from additional sound insulation in the floor, trunk, and front and rear fenders. All of the changes applied to last year's model have also carried over, including the addition of the Honda Sensing safety and driver assists as standard equipment on all trims. EX, EX-L and Sport Touring trims were also given an updated Display Audio system with physical buttons and a volume knob, improved voice recognition, a USB sub-cord, upgraded steering wheel controls, and physical buttons for fan speed on models with dual-zone climate control. Other changes included a new center console cup holder and an updated electronic parking brake with an indicator light. Honda Honda Honda For the 2020 model year, the Civic Hatchback Sport has also been upgraded with a 7-inch touchscreen Display Audio system with eight speakers, up from four in last year's model. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also now standard on Sport trims, along with Smart Start pushbutton ignition and Smart Entry keyless entry. For the first time, Sport trims equipped with the CVT also come with remote start. Sport trims have also been upgraded with new unique seat upholstery and new embossed dash trim. Pricing for the 2020 Honda Civic Hatchback starts at $21,650, which is a $250 increase over the previous model, while the range-topping Sport Touring trim equipped with a CVT transmission will set you back $28,850. All prices exclude the $930 destination and handling charge. Honda Honda Honda Honda Honda Honda
