Purple Koenigsegg Regera Is One Wild Hypercar

Aug. 24, 2019 9:50 AM ET by Noah Joseph For Sale / 5 Comments And it just so happens to be for sale. There's any number of reasons you might buy an exotic hypercar like a Koenigsegg. But flying under the radar or going low-key isn't one of them. Not even in a subtle color. So if you have the means and the inclination, you might as well lean into it, we say, and go for an outlandish shade. Like this one, decked out in purple.
Not bright purple, mind you, like the fuchsia in which noted supercar collector Michael Fux has been known to order his McLarens and Rolls-Royces. This is an altogether darker, more subdued hue – closer to an eggplant, we'd say. Tobias Kressmann/Semco Tobias Kressmann/Semco Tobias Kressmann/Semco But it's not just painted that color. Its carbon fiber is tinted in the deep tone, which makes it altogether more alluring – even in the photos, but especially, we're sure, in person. As rare as the exotic Swedish creations may be, this is no ordinary Koenigsegg, either. This is a Regera, one of the most technologically advanced hypercars ever created, and one of just 80 that will ever be built. And what's more is that it's available to buy (to those with bottomless pockets at any rate), listed (at an undisclosed price) by German exotic-car dealer Semco, which also has a One:1 available for €5.5 million (€6.5 with VAT). Tobias Kressmann/Semco Tobias Kressmann/Semco Tobias Kressmann/Semco The Regera, for those who need refreshing, was Koenigsegg's first hybrid (and its only to date, if you don't count the electric compressor feeding the new Jesko). It was based on the same architecture as the Agera, but fitted with a trio of electric motors that, together with the 5.0-liter twin-turbo V8, help the vehicle produce a massive 1,500 horsepower and almost as many pound-feet of torque. And in lieu of a traditional transmission, it uses an innovative – even revolutionary – single-gear direct-drive system. It can hit 62 from a standstill in just 2.8 seconds, and has a reported (but limited) top speed of 255 mph, making this one of the most powerful and capable hybrids ever made.
