Exclusive This Is How Fast Customers Can Drive Their Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300

Sep. 11, 2019 7:35 AM ET by Jay Traugott Scoop / 16 Comments Hint: It's faster than a regular Chiron. Bugatti has done it. The Chiron Super Sport 300+ has achieved the world record for the fastest production road car with a top speed of 304.77 mph, surpassing the previous record-holder, the Koenigsegg Agera R's 284.55 mph. It's a huge achievement, as is the Chiron Super Sport 300+ itself. Now, as Bugatti previously announced, a very limited number of Chiron Super Sport 300+s – 30 units to be exact – will be built for customers. All will soon be spoken for, costing at least $3.5 million before taxes. As can be expected, these cars won't be able to achieve the same top speed as the prototype record holder for obvious reasons. But it will still be seriously fast – with a top speed that surpasses the regular Chiron's electronically limited 261 mph. Bugatti/Facebook Bugatti Bugatti We asked Andy Wallace, the pro racing driver who was at the wheel of the Chiron Super Sport 300+ during its record-breaking run, during an interview at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show how fast the customer cars can go. Surely they'll be faster than 261 mph. Indeed they will. Wallace confirmed to CarBuzz "a top speed of 273.4 mph" (440 kph). And yes, this is electronically limited, but no matter. There's little chance owners will even attempt to go that fast, but it's nice to know the option exists. The Chiron Super Sport 300+ is also a celebration of the W16 engine, which Bugatti confirmed to us isn't going anywhere anytime soon despite the arrival of new EV hypercars such as the Lotus Evija and Rimac C_Two. With an additional 100 horsepower over the standard Chiron, the 1,600-hp Chiron Super Sport 300+ sprints from 0-60 mph in just 2.4 seconds. Wallace also explained that the two most critical elements of this particular Chiron are its enhanced aerodynamics, aka the long tail body style, and its Michelin tires.
