LEAKED First Look At Ferrari 812 GTS

Sep. 06, 2019 5:47 AM ET by Martin Bigg Leaked / 8 Comments An official reveal of the 812 convertible is just days away. We've known for a while now that Ferrari is unveiling two new models this month. While there's been no official confirmation yet, a photo of some metal paperweights supplied by Ferrari posted online this week suggests that convertible versions of the 812 Superfast and F8 Tributo are coming. Rumors of an 812 Spider being approved for production first started last year, and invitations were reportedly sent out for two private reveal events. One of those was allegedly on September 2, so it's possible the 812 Spider has already been shown privately. Inevitably, it seems that someone at the event took a stealthy snap of the car to give us a first look at the 812 Spider before the official reveal. Cavallino Rampante trax_x via Instagram trax_x via Instagram Posted by Cavallino Rampante, the photo isn't the best quality but it looks legit. The Ferrari 812 Spider looks very aggressive and has been modified with two rear buttresses to accommodate the folding metal roof mechanism that looks similar to the 488 Spider. This will be the first front-engined V12 convertible Ferrari has produced in a long time, as the automaker never made a droptop version of the F12berlinetta, which preceded the 812 Superfast. Whether it will be a limited edition model or enter series production remains to be seen. X-Tomi Design Ferrari Powertrain details haven't been confirmed, but the convertible 812 should share the same 6.5-liter, naturally aspirated V12 as its hardtop sibling, which produces 789 hp and 530 lb-ft of torque in the 812 Superfast. 0-62 mph takes just 2.8 seconds in the 812 Superfast, but the heavier convertible might be slightly slower off the line. Traditionally, Ferrari only applies the spider name to mid-engine models like the 488 Spider. The name of the open-top 812 Superfast hasn't been confirmed yet, but sources claim it will be called the 812 GTS. An official reveal is expected to take place on September 9, so we should have official details and photos very soon. Ferrari Ferrari
