Cadillac CT6-V Delay Reason Finally Solved

Sep. 03, 2019 6:25 AM ET by Jay Traugott / 5 Comments When will buyers receive their orders? Back in March 2018, Cadillac unveiled the CT6 V-Sport, whose name was later changed to CT6-V. It took until January 2019 before Cadillac began accepting orders. Within days all 275 pre-orders examples were sold. Cadillac was surprised but responded by increasing production numbers and the price tag by $4,000 to $92,790. The CT6-V sold out again. Impressive, right? Without question, but then nothing happened. And when we say nothing, we mean customers have yet to receive their high-priced 550-hp Caddies. What's going on here? Cadillac Society has learned that the reason for the delay was emissions. Sources claim "that emissions-related setbacks delayed the CT6-V from shipping on schedule." Cadillac clearly preferred not to publicly announce this delay due to perception issues. The good news is that these emissions issues have been sorted out, so expect deliveries to get underway soon. To its credit, Cadillac has remained in touch with customers telling them the vehicles were delayed in order to guarantee quality. It's also important to note the other Cadillac that's powered by the same twin-turbo 4.2-liter Blackwing V8, the CT6 Platinum, has also not arrived in dealerships for the same reason. Both are officially labeled by GM as "in transit." With a total of 550 horsepower and 640 lb-ft of torque, the Blackwing V8 is the engine Cadillac refuses to share with any other GM brand, such as Chevrolet. It won't be stuffed into the new C8 Corvette or Camaro. Instead, Chevy engineers will use some of the Blackwing's design for a new engine family, but it will remain Cadillac-only. Cadillac Cadillac Cadillac GM President Mark Reuss earlier this week went on record stating that contrary to what some pundits have claimed, Cadillac is in no danger of shutting down. A ton of new product is about to be unleashed, including crossovers, sedans, and the next Escalade along with EVs. The eventual goal is an all-EV lineup.
