Will This Be The Ultimate BMW-Powered Sports Car

BMW doesn't just loan out its engines willy nilly - it needs to be sure they will be used properly. Such is the case with the 2020 Toyota Supra, which uses a BMW-sourced 3.0-liter turbocharged B58 inline-six. The Supra is perhaps the best BMW-powered car on sale today that does not wear a BMW badge, which isn't saying much because the only other car to fit this criterion is the recently-revealed Morgan Plus Six. But the Supra could soon face competition for the title of ultimate BMW-powered sports car (that isn't a BMW). German automaker Wiesmann released a teaser photo on AutoRai.nl, sitting at the factory in the city of Dulmen, Germany. Wiesmann via AutoRai Wiesmann This new sports car has been slated to arrive since 2017 when Wiesmann came back from bankruptcy and announced a new partnership with BMW. Judging by the teaser, the car will retain the same classic shape we have seen from Wiesmann in the past - a two-door, front-engined retro sports car. The car is slated to make its debut at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor show in September. Wiesmann's last car, the GT MF4-CS, was powered by a BMW-sourced V8 producing 420 horsepower, enabling a 0-60 mph time of 4.4 seconds and a 182 mph top speed. This new model will use the same 4.4-liter twin-turbo S63 V8 from the current M5 producing between 600 hp and 625 hp, so it will be much faster. Wiesmann Wiesmann Wiesmann In the M5, power is routed exclusively through an eight-speed automatic transmission to xDrive all-wheel-drive, though the car does come with a rear-wheel-drive mode. It is unknown if Wiesmann will choose to ditch the AWD system to save weight and if a manual transmission will be offered. Other details such as price and even the car's name are still unknown but we have less than one month to find out.
