Corvette-Powered Land Rover Defender Packs Over 500 HP

Jan. 23, 2019 8:05 AM ET by Martin Bigg Tuning / 1 Comment Himalaya has taken the Land Rover Defender to the next level. A new Land Rover Defender may just be around the corner, but the current model is still getting a lot of love from adoring fans of the rugged off-roader. Some enthusiasts crave for more power, which has spawned some amazing tuning projects such as Himalaya's Spectre 110 Crew Cab. It may not be the first V8-powered Defender, but the attention to detailed poured into this project is commendable. Take the new dashboard, for example, with has a new instrument cluster and an Alpine touchscreen with Apple CarPlay connectivity. There's also a set of Recaro leather seats, while the back seats have a two-tone color combination. Even more significant upgrades can be found under the hood, where the Defender's stock four-cylinder motor has been replaced by a 6.3-liter V8 LS3 Corvette engine with 525 horsepower and 495 lb-ft of torque o tap. The V8 is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission that sends all that power to all four wheels. Himalaya promises that drivers "will have no doubt of the performance and drivability once behind the wheel." Elsewhere, the exterior has also had some modifications. The rugged off-roader rides on 37-inch Toyo Open Country tires and 18-inch Sawtooth Alloy wheels in gloss black, and the body is finished in matte gunmetal gray. It also "looks down on everything on the road in front of it," thanks to a four-inch lift with Fox Performance Shocks and Extreme Currie Hi-Flex suspension that raises the ride height. The Spectre is one of Himalaya's four Defender-based models, with pricing available upon request.
