2020 Cadillac XT5 Facelift Breaks Cover Early

Jan. 22, 2019 6:24 AM ET by Martin Bigg Leaked / 7 Comments The Cadillac XT5 is getting a subtle mid-cycle refresh. New model leaks are rife right now. First, the all-new 2020 Volkswagen Golf was spotted outside a McDonald's restaurant, then the 2020 BMW X3 M's design was discovered on an infotainment system. Now, images of the 2020 Cadillac XT5 facelift completely undisguised have leaked online courtesy of China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. It may be the Chinese model, but it still gives us an early preview of what to expect from the American model.
From the photos, we can expect the 2020 Cadillac XT5 to feature some subtle styling updates for its mid-cycle refresh. At the front, the horizontal grille has been replaced with a mesh pattern similar to its XT4 sibling. Like the XT4, the 2020 XT5 will be divided into Premium Luxury and Sport grades. Premium Luxury will feature bright body accents, while the latter will replace the bright accents with black ones. The lower grille is also slightly larger. While the shape of the headlights remains the same, the inside structure has been subtly redesigned, with the round projector replaced by an LED lighting element. Likewise, the taillights are still boomerang-shaped, but new internal LED design gives them a more three-dimensional appearance. As with the XT4, Premium Luxury models feature a red finish taillamp, while Sport models feature a transparent taillamp design. XT5 Sport models also gain a black surround trim for the windows. No photos of the interior are available yet, but the revamped XT5 is expected to inherit the new XT6's new steering wheel, and rotary controls for the infotainment system, as well as Cadillac's semi-autonomous Super Cruise system. Cadillac In China, the 2020 Cadillac XT5 is expected to swap its turbocharged 2.0-liter I4 LTG engine with an all-new 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder unit that produces 237 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. That's less power than before, but the new unit is said to be more refined. While the turbocharged unit has previously been exclusive to China, it could also be offered in America this time. The 310-hp 3.6-liter V6 will carry over in North America, but the eight-speed automatic will be replaced with a nine-speed transmission. The 2020 Cadillac XT5 is expected to be officially revealed in Q1 2019, possibly at the 2019 New York Auto Show in April, before going on sale in the summer. GM Cadillac
