Pricing Announced For Mercedes A-Class Sedan

Jan. 16, 2019 4:35 PM ET by Noah Joseph Pricing / 4 Comments And it's almost identical to its closest rival. A Mercedes-Benz isn't meant to be "cheap," but some are cheaper than others. Like the new A-Class sedan, which arrives in the US for the first time as the least expensive in the luxury automaker's expanding lineup.
The 2019 Mercedes-Benz A220 starts at $32,500, plus $995 destination. That undercuts the CLA four-door coupe by $600, and the GLA crossover by $1,450. Opt for the 4Matic all-wheel-drive version of the same and you'll spend an extra $2k, but either way you're getting essentially the same vehicle with the same engine and transmission. Mercedes-Benz Mercedes-Benz Mercedes-Benz Perhaps more to the point, though, is that Mercedes has priced the A-Class exactly the same as its nearest rival: the Audi A3 sedan (in base Premium trim and 40 TFSI spec) right down to the delivery fee. And the similarities don't end there. They both pack 2.0-liter turbo fours driving the front wheels (or optionally all four) through seven-speed dual-clutch transmissions – the Benz's producing 188 horsepower and 221 lb-ft of torque, the Audi's 184 hp and 222 lb-ft. But the slightly bigger and heavier Merc takes 7.1 seconds (in either front-or all-wheel drive) to reach 60, compared to the Audi's quoted 6.6. Mercedes-Benz Mercedes-Benz Mercedes-Benz Though the A3 is clearly the A-Class sedan's closest competitor, it's not the only alternative. From $25,900, Acura charges far less for its ILX – about the same as the $25,070 that Buick gets for a base Regal Sportback. And at $35,300, BMW charges a bit more for its entry-level 2 Series, but that's down a couple of doors. The Bavarians have been considering launching a 1 Series sedan in America, and a new Volvo S40 would fit right in with this company. But in the meantime, this looks like a grudge match between the Silver Star and the Four Rings. Mercedes-Benz Mercedes-Benz Mercedes-Benz
