The JDM version of Toyota's new flagship performance model will be offered with a 2.0-liter inline-four, also ostensibly sourced from BMW and augmented by a single twin-scroll turbocharger. It's even mated to the same eight-speed automatic transmission, driving the rear wheels – just like the six-cylinder version we'll get in America. Both are, of course, less potent than the 3.0-liter six, which packs 335 hp and 369 lb-ft. So while the six-cylinder Supra will reach 62 mph from a standstill in 4.3 seconds, the four-cylinder versions will take 6.5 and 5.2 seconds, respectively. What'll be particularly interesting to see, though, is how they might handle differently. Toyota estimates the four-pot Supra will weigh a good 154-242 pounds less than the six-cylinder model. Most of us will never find out, though, and even if we do, we won't be able to get our hands on the four-pot Supra. Which may be just as well, considering the power deficit and the history of straight-six Supras. But we're not ones to balk at having choices... especially if they come in cheaper.
