This Is Cadillac' s New Electric Crossover

Jan. 14, 2019 6:53 AM ET by Noah Joseph Concept / 13 Comments Unnamed concept spearheads a new electric-vehicle assault in Detroit. Did you catch the news yesterday that GM was planning to make Cadillac its lead EV brand? Well it turns out The General wasn't kidding – and it hasn't wasted any time, either.
With the 2019 Detroit Auto Show opening today in the shadow of GM's landmark Renaissance Center, Cadillac revealed the first glimpse at what promises to be the first of many new electric vehicles to follow – based on a dedicated EV platform that's slated to underpin a new generation of battery-powered vehicles to come from the American luxury marque and its industrial-giant parent company. Cadillac Cadillac At this early stage, Cadillac didn't announce much about the new model. It only released two photos, and didn't even announce its name. But we're sure there'll be more to follow in short order. And from what we can see so far, it looks to be in a different league from the ill-fated ELR plug-in hybrid coupe the brand launched earlier this decade. It also cuts a much sharper profile than the somewhat lackluster new XT6 crossover, fully revealed for the same show and leading a product revitalization that will see Cadillac roll out a new model every six months from now through 2021. Cadillac Cadillac Cadillac The XT6 will soon be followed by a new Escalade and a new performance sedan. More to the point, Cadillac will be the first to use this flexible new electric-vehicle architecture that will allow it and other GM brands to roll out a variety of battery-powered vehicles, with varying levels of output from its electric motors driving the front wheels, the rear, or all four. "Cadillac's EV will hit the heart of the crossover market and meet the needs of customers around the world," said Cadillac president Steve Carlisle. "It will represent the height of luxury and innovation while positioning Cadillac as the pinnacle of mobility." Cadillac Cadillac Cadillac Cadillac
