Valeo, a world-leading global automotive supplier has just revealed its latest innovation at the 2019 CES: a system that utilizes a brace of cameras to effectively see through whatever you may be towing. Called the XtraVue Trailer system, cameras mounted both at the back of the vehicle and the accompanying trailer or caravan work together to project an image of what is happening behind the vehicle onto a large screen mounted on the dashboard. Similar systems have been developed to help improve visibility in modern cars but this is the first time it has been adapted to aid in towing duties. With modern vehicles continuously growing in size, this kind of system will be a boon for those who regularly use their Ford F-150s for towing as well as owners of full-sized SUVs where visibility out the rear can be at a premium. Valeo Valeo Valeo Valeo says that the system can aid the driver in maneuvers regardless of the size of the trailer or caravan being towed. The image can look a bit distorted at times but there is no denying that it offers far greater visibility for the driver and the array of cameras also ensure that road markings and blind spots are displayed on the screen too. The current arrangement does not seem to be integrated into the vehicles infotainment system just yet but if it were to make it into series production, we would assume that it would be offered as a fully integrated solution rather than coming with its own separate screen. Valeo Valeo Valeo The XtraVue Trailer system is just one of a number of new innovations that Valeo is showcasing at CES this year; visit their stand and you will also see the Drive4U Remote which can operate autonomous vehicles remotely. The Voyage XR, meanwhile, is a system that can simulate the virtual presence of a person on board an autonomous vehicle. The aim is to allow someone to remotely control the vehicle using a virtual reality headset or have passengers 'teleport' into a moving vehicle the same way. While not all of these innovations will be making it to the end user in the near future, it is this kind of forward thinking that will lead to the next generation of technological advancements in the auto industry.
