BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe Could Have Over 300 HP

It wasn't long ago that we caught the long-rumored BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe undergoing testing ahead of entering production. Now, our spies have spotted another prototype loaded on a truck, giving us a closer look at BMW's upcoming Mercedes CLA fighter. While rumors have suggested the front will feature headlights designed in homage to the BMW 2002, the production headlights suggest it will retain the modern BMW look. Based on the next generation 2 Series, the 2020 2 Series Gran Coupe will slot below the new 3 Series Sedan when it launches later this year. Expect it to be around the same length as the current 2 Series Gran Tourer, with a length of around 177 inches. CarBuzz CarBuzz CarBuzz CarBuzz Rumors initially suggested the 2 Series Gran Coupe will have rear-wheel drive, but it's now being developed as a front-wheel-drive car to help distinguish it from the 3 Series as a new entry-level model. There will, however, be an optional xDrive system sending power to all four wheels in higher spec models. Our spies also managed to snap some photos underneath the car, confirming that the prototype doesn't have rear-wheel drive. There will also be an M Performance model rumored to be called the M235i with an additional 87 hp and 120 lb-ft of torque provided by an electric motor. A full-fat M2 Gran Coupe with 365 hp on tap was also rumored to be in development, but recent reports suggest the M235i will be the most powerful model in the 2 Series Gran Coupe range. Production will reportedly kick off in July 2019 and all cars will come with the M Sport configuration as standard, which includes a more muscular body, stiffer M Sport brakes, and 18-inch wheels.
