Mercedes has also issued a second recall for another safety system that covers a much smaller number of vehicles, but from a broader range of models. This time the problem is with the seatbelt sensors, which may not register that the buckle is fastened and therefor not activate the seatbelt pre-tensioners in the event of the crash. This recall affects an estimated 5,433 vehicles in the United States, split between the C-Class coupe and cabriolet, the E-Class coupe and cabriolet, and the S-Class – including the S450, S560, AMG S63 and S65, and the Maybach S560 and S650 limousines. Mercedes is instructing dealers to replace the seatbelt buckles to remedy the problem in a campaign set to kick off on January 25.
