It's built instead to the FIA's Rally 2 regulations, and will form the backbone once again of the Junior WRC Championship for up-and-coming rally drivers seeking to cut their proverbial teeth and prove their mettle. Ford To that end, Ford Performance and the Polish division of its rally partner M-Sport partnered to produce this machine. It's based on the Fiesta ST-Line (not the full-on ST model), and retains the same 1.0-liter EcoBoost turbocharged three-cylinder engine. But instead of 99, 123, or 140 horsepower as it produces in the road-going model, this one's been tuned to deliver 200 hp and 210 lb-ft of torque – as much as the larger 1.5-liter engine in the Fiesta ST. It's mated to a five-speed Sadev sequential gearbox, with an adjustable suspension encompassing Reiger dampers, Eibach springs, and an optional anti-roll bar. Ford Ford OZ provided the wheels, and Alcon and AP Racing the brakes in a package weighing just 2,270 lbs – a good few hundred less than the road-going model. "Every component has been designed to make this new car as strong and as innovative as possible within the regulations. But the main philosophy of the Fiesta R2 remains – giving the stars of the future the perfect platform with which to hone their skills and show what they can do in the early stages of their careers."
