This Is The Ultimate All-Wheel-Drive Nissan Altima

The all-new 2019 Nissan Altima is the first sedan offered by Nissan in the US to come equipped with all-wheel-drive. What better way to celebrate that fact than to build an intimidating one-off mountain-conquering AWD variant? Revealed at the Montreal International Auto Show, the Altima-te AWD is based on the new 2019 Altima AWD and features seven-inch-wide fender flares and replaces the standard wheels with some heavy-duty tracks. While it may be a one-off Altima, Nissan has been here before. Nissan "The Altima-te AWD joins the other, one-off, track-equipped crossover vehicles like the Rogue Warrior and sends a clear message to the market – this Altima has the ability to conquer the harshest weather environments with the added confidence provided by standard Nissan Intelligent All-Wheel Drive, which adapts to road conditions in the blink of an eye," says Joni Paiva, president of Nissan Canada Inc. The AWD system is standard in Canada while it will be an option in the US although we do not think that those awesome heavy-duty tracks will feature on the options list as well. Nissan For one, the Altima required serious modifications to have the Dominator track system fitted by Quebec-based Motorsports In Action (MIA) and taking this thing on the school run would probably violate a dozen traffic laws. It also took MIA a total of 250 hours to complete this project as major modifications had to be carried out to the suspension and bodywork to fit the 30-inch tall and 15-inch wide tracks. While the addition of AWD in the US Altima range is welcome, at this point it is only available on the 182-horsepower 2.5-liter model. The more potent turbocharged 236-hp 2.0-liter derivative remains front-wheel-drive only for now.
