New Porsche 911 Turbo S Cabriolet Spied Playing In The Snow

Dec. 07, 2018 1:20 PM ET by Martin Bigg Spy Shots / 1 Comment We're expecting the new 911 Turbo S to pack at least 600 hp. Now that the all-new Porsche 911 Carrera has made its world debut at the LA Auto Show, Porsche is wasting no time preparing the new 911 Turbo for production. We've already seen prototypes of the new 911 Turbo Cabriolet undergoing testing, but this appears to be the hot S version spied playing in the snow. Obviously, this isn't the car's natural habitat, but we bet the test driver was having a lot of fun sliding the sports car around. That said, the addition of an LED light bar at the front gives the car a rally-style appearance, and the all-wheel drive setup should make it easier to have some fun in the white stuff. The prototype is only lightly camouflaged, but the changes between the new and old generation 911 are very subtle so Porsche probably doesn't see the need to disguise it too thoroughly. You can still see some of the more noticeable design changes compared to the old model such as wider fenders, an extended hood, and a full-width LED light bar. As always, power for the new 911 Turbo S will be provided by a six-cylinder twin turbo boxer engine, and we're expecting it to deliver around 600 horsepower. The current 991 Turbo S already packs 580 hp, so it shouldn't be too difficult to increase the output to 600 hp. Power will be sent to all four wheels through a seven-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission. CarBuzz When can we expect to see the new Porsche 911 Turbo S? The Frankfurt Auto Show in September 2019 is probably a good bet since the 911 Turbo model traditionally debuts a year after the Carrera. Before then, the new Carrera Cabriolet is likely to be the next member of the 992 family that will break cover.
