After what feels like an eternity, the new Toyota Supra will finally be revealed next month at the Detroit Auto Showseven years after BMW and Toyota announced the development of a new sports car project. Ahead of its reveal, Toyota's teaser campaign for the reborn sports car is shifting into high gear with a new video. Toyota has blurred the video, so we can't see the exterior, but we do get to sample the sweet sound of the Supra's straight-six engine roar. It sounds superb, with an aggressive whine and ear-pleasing exhaust pops. "So, while we can't reveal its stunning curves just yet, we recently released it undercover and ahead of its international reveal in Detroit so that you can hear the sound of its harmonious song. Headphones at the ready." Specifically, the 2020 Toyota Supra is powered by a new 3.0-liter inline-six engine developed by BMW, which is shared by the Z4 roadster and the M340i sports sedan. Every previous Supra has had an in-line six, so Toyota wanted to continue that tradition. However, it didn't make financial sense to develop an all-new engine for a single model, so Toyota enlisted the help of BMW. Toyota Toyota has confirmed the new Supra will have "more than 300 horsepower" on tap, but the 3.0-liter unit is already capable of producing at least 382 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque in the Z4 M40i. An entry-level model is also expected to be offered with a smaller four-cylinder 2.0-liter pumping out 262 hp for a cheaper entry-level version. The Supra's eight-speed automatic transmission will also be sourced from BMW, while rumors suggest a manual option will only be available in right-hand-drive markets.
