Chinese Carmaker Blatantly Steals BMW X4 Design For New SUV

Earlier this month, Chinese automaker Geely released some teaser photos of its first-ever coupe SUV codenamed the FY11. Ahead of the vehicle's official reveal, new images have leaked on China's Autohome giving us a much clearer look at the upcoming coupe SUV, and it looks eerily familiar. Clearly, Geely has taken inspiration from other established coupe SUVs on the market such as the BMW X4. The front bumper, for example, looks very similar to the X4, as does the silhouette with its sloping roofline that echoes the fastback designs of high-performance sports cars. The headlights and taillights also appear to be inspired by Audi models. Elsewhere, the crossover adopts Geely's signature "expanding universe" grille and muscular shoulder lines. Inside, the similarities continue as the shape of the dashboard and center console look similar to the X4's. Even the infotainment system's rotary controller looks like BMW's iDrive system. There's also a large center screen and an all-digital panel. Geely says the new coupe SUV will have "true sporting credentials" and will be its "most driver-focused car to date." It will be the Chinese brand's first model based on the global Compact Modular Architecture also used by the Volvo XC40 and Lynk & Co's model family. Under the hood, the range-topping FY11 will feature a Volvo-sourced 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that sends 235 hp to an AWD system. Geely's first coupe SUV is expected to debut in China in the first quarter of this year. The Chinese automaker is also working on a new global electric sedan that will take on the Tesla Model 3.
