Cadillac May Morph Into All-Electric Tesla Rival

Just days ago, we reported on a potential name change for one of America's largest automakers, General Motors. If GM were to change its name, it would likely be to emphasize a deeper focus on electric vehicles. While GM may not be ready to change its company name just yet, the automaker does support the adoption of EVs in the US. In fact, according to a Reuters report, GM is expected to make Cadillac its new lead EV brand as a luxury rival for Tesla. This could be an interesting new direction for Cadillac and we are curious to hear more details. Cadillac Cadillac Cadillac Two sources who were briefed on the matter say GM is set to update investors on a new Cadillac vehicle based on the forthcoming "BEV3" platform. The current BEV2 platform is currently used on the Chevrolet Bolt. While GM will confirm a new EV from Cadillac, it won't give details on when this new model will be built, where it will be assembled, or what body style it will be. We'd place our bets on an SUV, though Buick has already teased an electric SUV concept of its own. Either way, Cadillac will have to learn from its past mistakes with the ELR if it wants to succeed in building an EV. The ELR was little more than a gussied up Volt at a much higher price, so this new model will have to do something special in order to win over Tesla enthusiasts. Cadillac Cadillac GM had previously marketed most of its electrified vehicles under the Chevy brand with the Bolt and Volt, though with the death of the Volt and the plug-in CT6, the American automaker now wants to focus solely on pure EVs. We are excited by the prospect of an EV from Cadillac. The brand has many stunning concepts on which to pull inspiration from, so there's no reason a flagship EV sedan from Cadillac couldn't challenge the Tesla Model S for dominance and spell trouble for upcoming electric cars like the Porsche Taycan and Audi e-tron GT.
