Toyota Recalls Cars That Were Already Recalled

Toyota has just announced a new recall campaign involving approximately 65,000 vehicles over issues with its Takata-produced airbags. A recall is always a bit of a hassle but for these owners it is even more so seeing as they have already gone through the process once before. The first recall was to replace front passenger airbag inflators with new Takata-produced, non-desiccated airbag inflators as a remedy and the models involved include Corolla, Sequoia, Tundra and Lexus SC vehicles that were produced between 2002 and 2005. Toyota Now Toyota is recalling the same vehicles once again for these very inflators. In a statement, the carmaker said: 'A safety defect may arise in the Takata inflators due to propellant degradation occurring after prolonged exposure to high absolute humidity and high-temperature cycling. Activation of an inflator with degraded propellant may result in an airbag inflator rupture. If a defective inflator ruptures, it may cause sharp metal fragments to pass through the airbag and spray directly at the driver and passengers, increasing the risk of serious injury or death.' That is not something you want to ignore and Toyota urges owners of the above-mentioned vehicles to check if their cars are affected at this dedicated site. The repairs take around one hour and will be carried out free of charge. Toyota is also trying to make it as hassle-free as possible, even offering alternate transport for vehicle owners as well as a towing or vehicle pick up service at no extra cost. Toyota is not the only manufacturer to have these issues with Takata airbags as these faulty units have been fitted to many different makes and models from around the world.
