If you're a purist looking for a Porsche 911 GT3 with a manual gearbox, so far your only option has been the Porsche 911 R. The only problem? A limited production run and high demand has meant that they often go on sale for $1 million. Happily, however, there's now an alternative. At this week's Geneva Motor Show, Porsche has revealed the new facelifted 911 GT3. And guess what? The rumors were right: it has a manual gearbox. Porsche has just answered the prayers of purists everywhere. Of course, that's not its only attribute. The new 911 GT3 is faster and more powerful than its predecessor, with a new naturally-aspirated, 4.0 liter flat-six engine that churns out 500 horsepower and 338 lb-ft of torque. While the engine size puts it in line with the GT3 RS and 911 R, it's based on the unit used in 911 race cars including the 911 GT3 R and 911 RSR. With a power-to-weight ratio of 6.4 pounds per hp, the new 911 GT3 is ideal for the race track. Those who want maximum performance can opt for the "standard" seven-speed dual-clutch transmission specifically constructed and tuned for the GT3. With this setup, the 911 GT3 will accelerate from 0-60 mph in 3.2 seconds and reach a top speed of 197 mph. Purists who select the manual six-speed transmission will suffer a slight performance decrease – sprinting from 0-60 mph will take 3.8 seconds, but it will achieve an extra one mph top speed. The manual option is also 16.7 kg lighter, but both models benefit from with rear-wheel steering and an updated chassis which improve the agility and stability. In other words, you won't be fearing for your life if you chuck it around corners without restraint. The new 911 GT3 has also been fitted with numerous design features to make it more aerodynamically efficient, including a carbon fiber rear wing, a lightweight front fascia, and front spoiler to improve airflow as well as a new rear diffuser and exhaust air openings. Inside, you'll find the same GT Sport steering wheel used in the 918 Spyder, along with optional bucket seats with a fixed carbon fiber reinforced backrest. As standard, the 911 GT3 is equipped with Adaptive Sport Seats Plus, which include 18-way electric adjustment and seat memory. The best part? Prices for the 2018 911 GT3 start at $143,600 – that's a little less than the $1 million price tag the 911 R commands.
