The Spectacular Spyker C8 Preliator Will Lose Its Roof At Geneva

Last year's Geneva marked the triumphant return of Dutch supercar maker Spyker, with the unveil of the spectacular Spyker C8 Preliator. Now, the company is gearing up to reveal a new drop-top version at this year's Geneva Motor Show called the C8 Preliator Spyder – and the initial teaser image hints that it could have a folding soft top roof. Details are being kept under wraps for now, but the fact it's based on the Preliator is something to get excited about. The Preliator is the most potent C8 in Spyker's line-up, with an Audi-sourced 4.2-liter V8 engine that produces 525 horsepower and 443 lb-ft of torque sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual or ZF 6-speed automatic with paddle shifters. However, the need for extra structural reinforcements mean that the Spyder variant will more than likely be heavier than the standard C8 Preliator, which weighs 1,390 kg. Production for the C8 Preliator was also limited to only 50 models and prices started at $354,990 (i.e. about the same as a small house), so it seems likely that the Spyder will follow in the same vein. Of course, the C8 Preliator Spyder will have stiff competition in the convertible supercar segment at Geneva, as it will be debuting alongside the incredible Pagani Huyara Roadster which will probably steal the show with its performance and revolutionary composite chassis. The C8 Preliator Spyder is unlikely to pose a threat to Pagani, then, but hopefully Spyker will soon strike back with its proposed V12-powered supercar.
