This Radical Road-Going Porsche 919 Race Car Needs To Happen

While hardcore Porsche enthusiasts are waiting for the next GT3 RS, motorsport fanatics were recently treated to the reveal of the latest Porsche 919 Hybrid Le Mans endurance racer which will adopt a turbocharged V4 producing around 900-horsepower - an engine layout you rarely see anymore. Porsche has a history of adapting engines from its race cars and applying the technology to its road cars, so we couldn't help but dream about a street-legal version of the Porsche 919 LMP1 prototype. Coincidentally, so too has renowned render artist Jan Peisert. Simply called the "2020 Porsche 911 GT1," Peisert has merged design elements of the potent Porsche 919 LMP1 prototype with the Mission E Concept to create a stunning render design that could easily pass as a successor to the fabled Porsche 918. Sadly, this will remain a fantasy for now, as Porsche has ruled out the possibility of a replacement for the 918 happening until 2025 at the earliest. As the name implies, Peisert also drew inspiration from the original 911 GT1 from the 1990s. Back then, it was designed to compete in the GT1 class, but homologation rules meant that a street-legal version also had to be produced - hence the radical road-going Porsche 911 GT1 Strasenversion was born. Porsche A limited run of around 25 examples were made, so the fact that one sold for a staggering $5,665,000 at a recent Amelia Island auction shouldn't come as a surprise.
