McLaren Special Operations Reveal Beautiful Bespoke 720S Velocity
Mar. 08, 2017 3:30 PM ET by Martin Bigg Supercars / 40 Comments It didn't take very long for the mesmerizing McLaren 720S to get the bespoke MSO treatment. Just when you thought McLaren couldn't announce any more surprises after the hotly anticipated reveal of the new 720S Super Series at Geneva, a new bespoke model has been shown off called the 720S Velocity. Created by the McLaren Special Operations bespoke vehicle division, the Velocity is designed to show the almost limitless degree of personalization that can customers can apply to the new Super Series. The McLaren 720S Velocity theme "celebrates extreme performance" and is finished in a striking two-tone red theme. A new Nerello Red shade was formed to be used on the front and upper body panels, as well as the tinted carbon fiber bonnet. This then fades into a vivid Volcano Red covering the sides and rear. Complimenting the bespoke paintwork are lightweight alloy wheels, finished in a subtle shade of metallic bronze, while a range of exterior carbon fiber parts grace the exterior to give the 720S a bolder presence. Along with the red carbon fiber bonnet, other bespoke parts fitted to the 720S Velocity include a gloss carbon Rear Deck Vent, gloss carbon fiber Service Cover, gloss carbon rear aero bridge and a satin carbon Full Length Sill Cover. The interior of the 720S Velocity has been given similar treatment, with a cabin coated in Carbon Black Alcantara trim providing a more "technical, sporting feel" and contrasting Harissa Red leather details. Matching the exterior theme, Harissa Red highlights are also applied to the fascia, steering wheel, doors and sport seats which come as standard in the 720S. "The MSO mission is to fulfill customer desire for exclusivity in their choice of McLaren," explained Ansar Ali, Managing Director of MSO. "The lean, sculpted beauty of the new 720S provides the perfect starting point for owners to be creative and the specification of this MSO 720S 'Velocity' showcases a taste of the customization options that are possible." The bespoke McLaren 720S Velocity will cost around £335,000 ($407,800), and is one of five MSO themes available for the new McLaren Super Series including GT, Pacific, Track & Stealth. Velocity has to be the most fitting name for the 720S, though, considering that the new Super Series has 720 horsepower, enabling it to sprint from 0-62 mph in 2.8 seconds, 0-124 mph in 7.8 seconds and reach a quarter mile in 10.3 seconds, before achieving a top speed of 212 mph.
