The successor to the McLaren 650S is set to be a show stopper at this year's Geneva Motor Show. Rumored to be called the 720s, last week we learned that the new second-generation McLaren super series will be powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 that will allow it to reach 0-124 mph in just 7.8 seconds. As the full reveal draws closer, McLaren has released more tantalizing details about its new supercar's potent performance, as well as the first official video footage of it in action. This week, McLaren has detailed how the extreme acceleration of the new super series' will be matched with exceptional braking capabilities that will "redefine expectations of supercar capability." Once you hit 124 mph, the new super series will then brake to a standstill in just 4.6 seconds and 117 meters (383 feet) – that's six meters less than the 650S and nearly on a par with the mighty McLaren P1. This astonishing stopping power is possible thanks to "the most rigorous development program of dynamic technologies ever undertaken by McLaren Automotive." This resulted is carbon-ceramic discs being fitted as standard, along with lighter and stiffer brake calipers as well as an optimized brake pedal feel to give you more tactile feedback when the new super series is reaching the limit. The improvements don't stop there. McLaren collaborated with Pirelli to develop bespoke P Zero Corsa tires specifically for the new Super Series that provide "superb driver feedback" and "extreme levels of grip and braking performance," as well as improving mechanical grip by six percent compared to the McLaren 650S. "As well as delivering the outstanding driver involvement and enjoyment for which the brand is renowned, McLaren's new supercar will also excel in everyday driving," explained McLaren Automotive Chief Test Driver, Chris Goodwin. "The extreme performance and dynamic prowess of the second-generation Super Series, honed by testing at the limits and beyond, provides the perfect foundation for it to be the most complete supercar across the full range of use." Those who enjoy driving sideways were no doubt eager to learn about the new supercar's dedicated drift mode. Showing the new 720S Super Series in action for the first time, an accompanying video shows Chief Test Driver Chris Goodwin demonstrating its drifting abilities - for testing purposes, obviously. No one is allowed to have that much fun on the job.
