The First McLaren 720S Has Rolled Off The Production Line

The reveal of the mighty McLaren 720S at this year's Geneva Motor Show marked a significant new chapter for the British manufacturer. A successor to the 650S, the 720S signals the start of the second generation of the McLaren Super Series, and has now entered full production. To mark the occasion, McLaren Automotive has revealed the first production example of the 720S nicknamed 'Job #1' finished in Glacier White. Codenamed 'P14', the new Super Series generation is the first time a model family has been replaced since McLaren Automotive formed in 2010. It replaces the previous 'P11' Super Series family which kickstarted the company, starting with the McLaren 12C and its subsequent spider variant before they were superseded by the 650S and 675LT. "The new McLaren 720S entering volume production is a momentous occasion for McLaren Automotive, marking the first time since the company was formed in 2010 that we have replaced a model family with an all-new generation," said McLaren's Chief Executive Officer Mike Flewitt. "Customer interest in the new McLaren 720S following its unveiling in March at the Geneva International Motor Show has significantly exceeded our expectations." We are bidding farewell to the first-generation Super Series in the knowledge that we have a successor that raises limits in the supercar segment to new heights," he added during a ceremony marking the completion of the Job #1 car. The 720S improves on its predecessor in practically every way. It's lighter and more aerodynamically efficient than the 650S, and of course much faster thanks to its 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine producing 720-horsepower allowing the supercar to sprint from 0-62 mph in 2.9 seconds. This is just the start of what promises to be an exciting new era for McLaren, with plans to introduce 15 new models by the end of 2022 including the BP23 Hyper-GT which will pack even more power than the P1.
