BREAKING First Look At New McLaren F1 Successor

The McLaren P1 hybrid hypercar may be the current pinnacle of the British manufacturer's Ultimate Series, but in a few years, it will be joined by a new Hyper-GT inspired by the famed F1. Codenamed BP23 (standing for "Bespoke Project 2 with 3 seats"), the three-seater hypercar will adopt a central driving position like the F1 before it. Revealing new details, McLaren says the BP23 will be "the most powerful and most aerodynamic road-going McLaren ever produced," even surpassing the 903-horsepower P1 hybrid hypercar. A new design sketch revealed by McLaren gives us our best look yet at the three seater hypercar's aerodynamic design, revealing a sleek shape with an intimidating rear diffuser, sloping rear-end, slim LED lights, and massive wheels. Like the F1, production will be limited to 106 examples – and they've already sold out before being officially revealed to the public, for what we can assume must be an astronomical price. Deliveries are expected to commence in 2019. Following the McLaren X-1 first shown at the 2012 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, development of the bespoke BP23 is currently being handled by McLaren Special Operations. MSO will provide customers with the usual array of extensive color choices, trim materials and other personalization options to tailor the car to their tastes. Unlike the P1, which is primarily designed to set blistering lap times, the BP23 will be a high-performance luxury grand tourer, much like the Bugatti Chiron. McLaren is remaining tight-lipped about the potential power output, but expect it to be extraordinarily fast, thanks to a hybrid powertrain combining a powerful electric motor with a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 lifted from the 720S. With the Aston Martin Valkyrie and Mercedes-AMG Project One also in development, we could be looking at a new golden era for the hypercar within the next couple of years.
