Presenting The 707-HP 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk

After waiting more than a year since Jeep strongly hinted it was coming, the 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk has made its online debut just prior to its live reveal at the 2017 New York Auto Show later this week. You already know some of its juiciest details, but the official specs are so worth telling: Power comes from the 6.2-liter supercharged Hellcat V8 with a total of 707 hp and 645 lb-ft of torque. Why is torque down by 5 lb-ft compared to the Charger and Challenger SRT Hellcats? It's likely related to the Trackhawk's all-wheel-drive system. Quick comparison: the current hot rod Grand Cherokee SRT has 475 hp and 470 lb-ft of twist. However, the Trackhawk carries an additional 259 pounds of meat (it weighs a total of 5,363 pounds), and yet Jeep claims it'll do 0-60 mph in only 3.5 seconds. For the record, the Trackhawk is the fastest SUV ever. It'll do the quarter-mile in just 11.6 seconds and reaches a maximum speed of 180 mph. Oh, it can also tow up to 7,200 pounds. Contain yourselves – there's more. The sole gearbox will be an upgraded eight-speed automatic with an electronically controlled limited-slip differential for the rear wheels. Drivers will be able to choose from different drive modes, specifically Auto, Snow, Tow, Sport, and Track. All feature unique front-rear torque splits. For example, it's 40-60 in Auto, 50-50 in Snow, and 30-70 in Track. In order to slow and eventually bring to a stop this 707-hp middle finger to the Porsche Cayenne Turbo S, Jeep has given the Trackhawk Brembo brakes front and rear, good enough for a stopping distance of only 114 feet from 60 mph. The exterior styling is – dare we say – pretty subdued. Aside from a few badges, most wouldn't know what's lurking under its hood. But there are some changes that gives away its naughtiness. Jeep Note the extra air opening beneath the front grille for necessary cooling (no shit), as well as an intake in place of the fog light openings for even more cooling. Those hood scoops, of course, are functional. There's also body color flares over the 20-inch wheels along with a new quad-tip exhaust out back. Step inside and most of what you'll see is familiar, with the exception of two things: a Trackhawk badge on the steering wheel and a 200-mph speedometer. Literally everything else, such as active noise cancellation, dashboard with stitched leather and door panel openings, are straight from the SRT. The 8.4-inch Uconnect infotainment display returns, only now it has driver-focused pages for monitoring performance readouts. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard. Other driver's aid features include adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, parking sensors and forward collision warning. The photos you see here show the optional Signature Leather Interior Package covered in Dark Ruby Red. Nappa leather seats are standard. Official pricing hasn't been revealed, but a reasonable guess is a starting price of around $80,000. Compared to the $160,000 Porsche Cayenne Turbo S (with "just" 570 hp), the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk is a killer bargain.
