David Brown Automotive Will Reveal A New Retro-Inspired Sports Car

Bespoke British carmaker David Brown Automotive is known for the stunning Aston Martin DB5-inspired Speedback GT which was showcased at this year's Geneva Motor Show. Currently, this is the only car the company produces, but that's about to change. Three years after the Speedback GT was launched, the automaker has announced that a new retro-inspired production car is in the works and will be launched in Q2 2017. For now, David Brown Automotive is referring to the mystery car as 'Project 2.' Like the Speedback GT, Project 2 will incorporate traditional high quality coach building with modern technologies and will be based on an iconic, retro-inspired design. Expect the same level of exquisite craftsmanship seen in the Speedback GT, too. Coinciding with the relocation of the company's headquarters and manufacturing operations to Silverstone, three variants of the new coach building project will be revealed some time in the summer, with deliveries expected to start in September. No price has been announced, but the good news is that a spokesperson told Autocar that it will be considerably cheaper than the Speedback GT before it, which cost over half a million dollars. "I am so proud to now be able to share the news of our new model," said company founder David Brown. "We've been working on Project 2 for over a year, it's an idea that I had right at the start of Speedback GT's story and sits beautifully alongside it. Using our core mantra of classic styling, beautiful craftsmanship and modern technology, Project 2 is a fusion of the brand's values, with quintessential British design and craftsmanship at the heart. We've had a lot of fun with the new car and I can't wait to reveal it in full." A new range of exterior colors and unique interiors have been developed for Project 2, but little else is known about the car. The only clue David Brown Automotive is giving about the design inspiration for Project 2 is that it's based on "The Original Remastered," suggesting that it could possibly be based on a vintage Aston Martin older than the DB5. Sadly, the accompanying teaser images showing extreme closeups of the bodywork don't offer any clues either, other than previewing the paint schemes that will be available for the three different models. While the styling of the Speedback GT was a modern reimagining of the iconic Aston Martin DB5, it was based on the discontinued Jaguar XK. It even had the same 5.0-liter V8 under the hood, producing 510 horsepower and 625 lb-ft of torque.
