The Fate Of The Furious Is Expected To Earn Less Than Furious 7

In less than a month, "The Fate of the Furious" will arrive on the big screen, and already industry analysts are predicting it'll make a ton of money for Universal. However, its US opening three-day weekend is expected to earn between $110-120 million which is less than what Furious 7 pulled in its Friday through Sunday opening weekend, according to The Wrap. Furious 7 earned an insane $147 million during that time, most likely because of its infamous production where star Paul Walker was tragically killed. Only about a third of his scenes were filmed, and major script rewrites as well as enlisting the help of his two brothers to act as stand-ins were required in order to complete the film. As for its sequel, The Fate of the Furious could very well exceed these initial opening weekend box office expectations. It's not too unusual for the studio, as well as analysts, to keep return estimates fairly conservative in order to avoid bad press. The eighth installment of the long-running franchise also enjoys the benefit of an April opening; its only competition will be "Smurf: The Lost Village." In the meantime, here's the final trailer (again) for The Fate of the Furious, opens in the US on April 14.
