The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Is The Gullwing Delight We Dearly Miss

Feb. 19, 2017 10:01 AM ET by Jay Traugott / 6 Comments Can anyone find anything wrong with this car? From 2010 until 2015, Mercedes-Benz offered the world its reborn gullwing supercar, the SLS AMG. It was and still is lovely, one of just many adjectives that describes what Jeremy Clarkson called "the greatest car in the world." Hard to disagree with Jezza on that one. Powered by a hand-built 6.3-liter V8 with 563 hp and 479 lb-ft torque, Mercedes-Benz proudly declared it to be "the world's most powerful naturally aspirated production series engine." Zero to 60 mph happens in only 3.5 seconds, while 0-100 can be experienced in 12.6 seconds. This 3,500 pound coupe is so fast that Mercedes had to limit its top speed to 196 mph. The SLS AMG we sampled is a 2012 model year featuring Designo Mystic White exterior paint and Aspen White with two-tone heated leather seats inside. We also discovered this particular SLS AMG comes with a Mansory body kit consisting of carbon fiber front and rear fenders, side gills, a new rear lip spoiler and optimized diffuser for additional lift. There's also a set of lightweight forged alloy wheels. So, what does all of this German-built goodness cost? Brand new, at least $202,000, but time has resulted in a bit of depreciation, as this one has an asking price of $198,500. Just shut up and take our money (if we had it). Special thanks to Los Gatos Luxury Cars for letting us film the car.
