Jaguar Will Be Battling The BMW M3 With The 500-HP XE SVR

Jaguar is apparently set to do battle with the BMW M3 and Mercedes-AMG C63 with a new range-topping sedan as part of its XE range. Called the XE SVR, Auto Express reports that Jaguar Land Rover's Special Vehicle Operations division is currently benchmarking the performance sedan against its rivals in Northern Spain. This marks Jaguar's first attempt to develop a direct rival to the BMW M3, as the only other vehicles in its roster to receive the SVR treatment are the F-Type and Range Rover Sport. As with existing SVR models, the Jaguar XE SVR is expected to be powered by the manufacturer's flagship 5.0-liter supercharged V8 mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox, which produces 567 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque in the case of the F-Type SVR. The XE SVR is unlikely to be quite as potent as the F-Type, but should still develop around 500 horsepower to keep the BMW M3 at bay. Likewise, since the F-Type and Range Rover Sport SVR both incorporate an all-wheel drive system, chances are the souped-up XE SVR will too. Consequently, this means it will be around 50 kg heavier, but this will make it a worthy adversary to the Audi RS4. Still, the performance upgrade should allow the XE SVR to sprint from 0-62mph in under four seconds. In comparison, Jaguar's current XE S flagship model achieves this in 5.1 seconds. Chassis tweaks and spring and damper revisions will make the XE SVR "stiffer and more focused," while the traction should also be improved thanks to its electronically controlled limited-slip rear differential. Jaguar Land Rover Signifying the XE SVR's extra grunt will be an exterior bodykit with blistered arches, aggressive bumpers and side skirts arches, as well as unique alloys surrounding the beefier performance brakes (photos of the XE S shown). Auto Express says we can expect the XE SVR to hit the market "halfway through the saloon's lifecycle" and cost around £65,000 ($81,000). Jaguar Land Rover
