Did An Australian Porsche Dealer Accidentally Reveal The Cayman GT4 RS

Apparently Porsche Centre Brisbane in Australia is just as excited by the prospect of a Cayman GT4 RS as many of us are, and so one of its employees hopped on Instagram and wrote a post regarding customer interest in such a car. CarAdvice not only saw the post but also managed to snag a screenshot of it before two things happened: the post was removed and Porsche denied the Cayman GT4 RS's existence (again). The post itself reads: "Due to high demand, a GT4 RS is on its way – with more power and a 4.0L flat-six engine, this limited model will turn heads." We've reported on this subject before and clearly it's a rumor that won't die. The idea behind a potential Cayman GT4 RS, which Porsche Motorsport chief Andreas Preuninger once hinted at, would be to shoehorn the 911 GT3 RS's 4.0-liter flat-six into the mid-engine Cayman. Currently the most powerful and extreme Cayman you can buy is the GT4 and its 911 GT3-derived 3.8-liter flat-six. Now, both the GT3 RS and Cayman GT4 premiered at the Geneva Motor Show two years ago, right around the time Preuninger made his offhand remark. We already know the facelifted 911 GT3 is coming to this year's Swiss show, so it's possible the ultimate Cayman could arrive as well. However, we still have our doubts about a GT4 RS. Reason being is that, even with a slightly detuned 4.0-flat-six, such a car would internally compete with its 911 GT3 and GT3 RS big brothers.
