This 405-HP Volkswagen Golf GTI Was Created By Young Apprentices

May. 11, 2018 2:50 PM ET by Martin Bigg / 4 Comments Volkswagen has revealed two new concepts at its annual Worthersee show. At this year's annual Worthersee show, Volkswagen will lift the wraps off the race-inspired Golf GTI TCR, a new special edition model that's tipped to be the fastest Golf GTI ever produced. But these two Golf GTI concepts created by young VW apprentices may have already stolen the show. First up is the Golf GTI Next Level, featuring a two-tone exterior with a white silver metallic finish and deep black pearl effect at the rear. Hand-painted contrasting foils with forked arrows have also been applied to the paintwork. Volkswagen The hatchback has also been equipped with a Volkswagen Accessories body kit, a Bilstein coilover suspension and 20-inch forged aluminum wheels from an Audi R8. Inside, the young apprentices, aged between 19 and 23, have fitted two-tone seats with black nappa leather and ice grey Alcantara upholstery. There's also a two-tone steering wheel, red contrast stitching and special trim. Both the exterior and interior were designed on graphic computers. To fit the complex sound and multimedia installation at the rear, the apprentices designed the side trims and mounts for loudspeakers and a subwoofer on CAD computers and fabricated them using 3D printers. Special apps were also programmed to control the electric-powered opening cargo floor, retractable LED monitor and LED underfloor lighting. Powering the Golf GTI Next Level is a 2.0-liter gasoline engine equipped with forged pistons and an upgraded turbocharger. It's also been fitted with a new stainless-steel sports exhaust system and a larger intercooler. Thanks to these modifications, the Golf GTI Next Level produces a respectable 405 hp and 376 lb-ft of torque. Next up is the Golf Variant TGI GMOTION. Created by apprentices from the Chemnitz, Dresden and Zwickau plants, VW says the show car "combines a sporting character, elegance and off-road capabilities." Volkswagen Painted in matt and gloss colors, the Golf Variant TGI GMOTION also features a coilover suspension, which can be lowered by 1.57 inches, 4-piston brake system and 20-inch wheels. Inside, sports seats have red decorative stitching, sewn honeycombs and an embroidered GMOTION logo. Under the hood is a 1.5-liter gasoline engine producing 129 hp with seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox and integrated all-wheel drive.
