French Automaker DS Prepares To Enter US Market With New Plan

The PSA Group, makers of French brands such as Peugeot, Citroen, and DS, made headlines when it acquired the Opel and Vauxhall brands from General Motors. Aside from this big acquisition, news of PSA doesn't travel well to the United States. Perhaps this is because none of PSA's brands currently sells cars here. PSA wants to change that, and has talked about an eventual return to the US market. The French automaker is gearing up for some big changes, including a total shift to electrified vehicles for the DS brand by 2025. In PSA's press release, the company promised that from 2025 onwards, all new DS models will be available exclusively in electrified versions - either hybrid or electric. The brand is already making moves towards this goal, including the introduction of an SUV called the DS 7 Crossback E-Tense - a plug-in hybrid SUV with up to 300 horsepower. We will see more electrified models from DS at the 2018 Paris Motor Show this October. We've gone on record saying that DS would have to move its focus away from small hatchbacks and diesels in order to appeal to US buyers. It seems the company is starting to make the appropriate moves to build what Americans love: SUVs. PSA hasn't announced an official return to the US as of yet, but it has started to develop vehicles to conform to North America's safety and emissions standards, and is currently staffing up its new North American headquarters in Atlanta.
