Lamborghini Aventador SVJ Spied Lapping The Nurburgring

Apr. 10, 2018 1:50 PM ET by Martin Bigg Spy Shots / 30 Comments The latest sighting of the Lamborghini Aventador SV shows the hardcore supercar in its more natural habitat. We were hoping to see the new Lamborghini Aventador SVJ at this year's Geneva Motor Show, but alas that didn't happen. Instead, the Italian automaker used the Swiss venue to unveil the new Huracan Performante Spyder. But do not despair, because the even more hardcore version of the Aventador S is coming. We recently got a sneak preview of a camouflaged Aventador SVJ prototype roaming the streets. Now our spies have caught the wild V12-powered beast in its more natural habitat: the Nurburgring. It may be disguised in camouflage, but racier parts, such as a new front splitter, higher-positioned exhaust pipes, center lock wheels, and a massive fixed rear wing, leave us in no doubt we're looking at the most hardcore, track-focused Aventador yet. Its predecessor, the Aventador SV, was limited to 600 units, but we expect production of the new SVJ variant will be significantly more limited. It's a trend we've seen with previous Jota models, a name that has been traditionally applied to some of the most hardcore Lamborghinis ever made. Lamborghini produced just 28 examples of the Diablo Jota, while the original Miura Jota and Aventador J were both one-off specials. Under the hood, the Aventador SVJ is expected to pack an even more powerful version of the 6.5-liter V12, possibly with 800 horsepower on tap. The Aventador S arrived last year with 40 more ponies than the standard car, bringing the total to 730 hp, so a similar bump in power seems feasible. The car shown in our spy shots is the coupe model, but we're expecting it to be joined by a drop-top version as well. Lamborghini still hasn't acknowledged the existence of the Aventador SVJ, but it's expected to debut later this year to shake up the supercar world.
