All-New Kia K900 Is A Sleek And Sophisticated Luxury Sedan

Mar. 29, 2018 6:30 AM ET by Martin Bigg Reveal / 9 Comments Meet the most luxurious and technologically advanced Kia ever. The Kia K900 has only been on sale in the US since 2015, but it struggled to make its mark. Luckily, the luxury sedan has been given a new lease of life, as Kia has just revealed the all-new second-generation K900 at the New York Auto Show. Redesigned from the ground up, the new K900 is Kia's latest attempt to compete against the likes of the more established Audi A8, BMW 7 Series, and Mercedes-Benz S-Class. It's a lofty goal, but as the Stinger has shown, Kia has proven to be a formidable car manufacturer in recent years. One look at new 2019 Kia K900, and it clearly looks a lot more modern than its predecessor, blending Kia's current design language with its own unique styling cues. Combining a sleek and sophisticated exterior, a plush cabin with premium materials, performance that befits a flagship sedan, and advanced safety tech, the new K900 is easily the most luxurious and technologically advanced Kia ever. "The all-new 2019 K900 is much more than a generational redesign, as it takes on a whole new look, feel and character over its predecessor. Only its name – K900 – is carried over," said Orth Hedrick, Vice President of Product Planning at Kia. "Our designers and engineers have done an extraordinary job of reimagining the K900 to fully meet the needs and desires of consumers shopping in the luxury sedan segment with the promise of a tremendous value proposition that only Kia can deliver. The all-new K900 is a push into new territory and serves as further evidence this brand is moving in a forward direction." Stylistically, Kia describes the redesigned K900 as "sophisticated and stately". It's slightly longer and wider than the outgoing model, but the overall shape looks tighter thanks to reimagined proportions. The result is a beautifully balanced design with flowing lines that are pleasing to the eye. Kia says its designers were inspired by "The Gravity of Prestige" design philosophy, which "translates to a feeling of solidity and volume in the upscale space." At the front is Kia's new Quadric pattern grille featuring 176 jewel-like 'cells' "suggestive of released energy accelerating away from its center" flanked by duplex LED headlights. A satin chrome strip runs along the base of the doors and around the lower rear section to focus your eyes on the car's 19-inch wheels. The rear of the K900 highlights the car's wide stance, featuring duplex rear combi lights and integrated exhaust housings finished in chrome. Inside, the new K900's interior features an elegant design with a minimalist layout. The cabin wraps around the driver, while surfaces are trimmed in a combination of materials with metal veneers and a choice of four open pore matte wood selections: Walnut, Brown Olive Ash, Beige Olive Ash and Engineered Wood. There's also a choice of Black, Beige, Espresso Brown or two-tone Sienna Brown soft leather trims and heated leather seats. The uncluttered dashboard features a "tech-savvy instrument panel" and integrated air vents, while the mood lighting has a choice of 64 colors. As you'd expect for a flagship sedan, there's a wide array of advanced technology, connectivity and infotainment features. The center console features 12.3-inch touchscreen, as well as a newly designed Premium Navigation system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A high-resolution seven-inch instrument cluster is included as standard, but this can be upgraded to 12.3-inches with graphics that change depending on the drive mode. A 9.7-inch Head Up Display is also available. Driver assists include a Blind Spot View Monitor, Lane Keep Assist System, Forward Collision Avoidance Assist, Driver Attention Warning, and Rear Cross Traffic Avoidance Alert. As for powertrains, the new K900 is powered by the same 3.3-liter twin-turbo V6 as the acclaimed Stinger providing 365 horsepower and 376 lb-ft of torque. The V6 unit is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, while a rear-biased, Dynamic Torque Vectoring Control all-wheel drive system, which was also fitted to the Stinger, provides crisp handling. A longer wheelbase and a wider stance provide greater control and stability, as well as an ultra-smooth ride. Compared to the previous K900, the chassis has been significantly strengthened, resulting in a more rigid body with increased front and rear lateral stiffness. Torsional stiffness has increased by 33 percent over the outgoing K900. The all-new Kia K900 will go on sale in the US in Q4 2018. Prices will be announced closer to launch.
