These Guys Are Building The Fastest SUV On The Planet

May. 12, 2018 10:00 AM ET by John Tallodi / 4 Comments Lister will transform the Jaguar F-Pace into a 666-hp animal. Hot on the heels of the announcement that Lister Cars will be releasing a 666-hp 5.0-liter V8 Jaguar F-Type called the Thunder, comes the revelation that its next big project will be based on an F-Pace SUV with the same crazy V8 under its hood. While there are plenty of mega-horsepower sports coupes around, even in today's sporty SUV obsessed world, a 666-hp F-Pace is up there with the maddest ones like the 641-hp Lamborghini Urus and 707-hp Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk. Jaguar The F-Pace Lightning, as it will be called, will have to wait a while though as Lister is waiting until Jaguar releases its own V8 powered version since they do not want to base this mega SUV on a V6 variant. Lister boss Lawrence Whittaker predicts a release somewhere around September this year that also indicates that the factory V8 F-Pace SVR should be making an appearance before then as well. That model promises to deliver 550-hp from a supercharged V8 along with a 176-mph top speed, figures the Lister modified car should comfortably eclipse. Whittaker says that like the F-Type Thunder, the F-Pace Lightning will receive comprehensive performance upgrades over and above a simple power hike. Jaguar While the heavier F-Pace bodyshell may not match the 666-hp F-Type's 208-mph top end and 3-second 0-60 mph time, it should do very well compared to the Urus. Why go to all the trouble? Older readers and fans of somewhat obscure European sports cars will perhaps remember the Lister Storm, an early '90s homologated sports coupe that made use of a massive 546-hp Jaguar-sourced 7.0-liter V12. It may not have been very successful on track but it made for a cracking road car. Lister plans to build a modern-day version of this beast and these modified Jaguar production models is how it plans to raise the funds. If they succeed we may soon have a 1000-hp Lister hypercar on the roads. Lister
