Presenting The Refreshed And Renamed 2019 Toyota Yaris Sedan
Mar. 26, 2018 7:15 AM ET by Jay Traugott / 7 Comments What's new, you ask? For starters, 'iA' has been dropped from its name. For those who still desire to own a Mazda2 sedan but can't because that model is not sold in the US, have no worries because the Toyota Yaris sedan is here. The subcompact has been refreshed for 2019 and is making its debut here at the 2018 New York Auto Show. What's new? For starters, it's simply called 'Yaris Sedan', with the previous 'iA' in the name being dropped. A similar rename was done with the also just unveiled 2019 Corolla Hatchback, previously called Corolla iM. Toyota Overall, the Yaris sedan remains relatively unchanged, aside from a new premium XLE trim which adds leather accents and a leatherette-trimmed interior (front seats, steering wheel, shift knob and parking brake), and a new sport-inspired front grille with a honeycomb pattern. The exterior also offers up piano black accents and some chrome trim. Fog lights, 16-inch alloy wheels, and a rear lip spoiler are standard on the mid-range LE and XLE trims. All trims, including the base L, come standard with safety systems such as pre-collision warning, stability control, traction control, and brake assist. A roof-mounted shark antenna for satellite radio is also standard. If you want power outside heated mirrors with LED turn-signals, you'll have to bump up to at least the LE. The sole engine remains the 1.5-liter four-cylinder with direct-injection, paired to either a six-speed manual or optional six-speed automatic transmission. The latter gearbox offers a combined 35 mpg. The interior boasts a standard 7-inch touchscreen system with voice recognition and a standard backup camera. A six-speaker sound system, USB port with iPod connectivity, and a 3-month complimentary SiriusXM radio subscription all come at no extra. Offered in seven exterior colors including Frost, Chromium and Graphite, sales for the 2019 Toyota Yaris Sedan will get underway next fall, and we expect pricing to be announced closer to that date.
