Hyundai i30 N Fastback Spied Tearing Up The Ring

Credit where credit's due, the Hyundai Veloster N, aka America's equivalent to Europe's i30 N, came out of nowhere and suddenly took the hot hatch segment by storm. Hyundai's N Performance division has created a true competitor to some of the more established hot hatch titans such as the Volkswagen Golf GTI, Ford Focus ST, and Honda Civic Type R. Both the i30 N and Veloster N have been extremely well received, so it's not surprising to see that Hyundai wants to apply its winning formula to other cars. At the Nurburgring, our spy photographers captured what appears to be a Hyundai i30 N Fastback tearing up the track disguised with a thin layer of camouflage. Like its hatchback sibling, the i30 Fastback features a sportier front bumper with large air intakes, wider side sills, and bigger wheels housing beefier brakes with red calipers. At the back are two large exhaust pipes and what looks like a hidden rear spoiler. In terms of performance, engine options should mirror both the i30 N and Veloster N, with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine available with 247 hp and 275 hp paired with a six-speed manual gearbox. An eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox is also in the works. Whether the Hyundai i30 N Fastback will be sold in America is up for debate. Currently, the i30 Fastback is only sold in Europe, and the Veloster has only ever been sold as a hatchback. Alternatively, Hyundai could be cooking up an all-new model specifically for America based on the i30 N Fastback, but that's just speculation on our part. Given the success of the Veloster N, we would certainly welcome more performance-oriented Hyundais in the US.
