The Tesla Model Y Has A Potential Reveal Date

There's a lot of mystery surrounding the Tesla Model Y, but we now have a potential reveal date. Responding to a user on Twitter, Elon Musk said he wants to unveil the electric crossover on March 15, 2019. While that's a very specific date, Musk later admitted he "just made that up" because "the Ides of March sounded good," which corresponds to March 15 on the Roman calendar. However, while it sounds like he chose that date completely at random, he added that a mid-March reveal would coincide with Tesla's plans. Peisert Design via Facebook "But consider it real," he said. "We could unveil Model Y anytime from late this year to mid next year, so March 15 is about right." If Musk decides to stick to this date, the Model Y will break cover around a year before it allegedly starts production in early 2020. Musk recently said the Model Y will be "a manufacturing revolution," but a production location hasn't been announced yet. It won't be made in the same Fremont plant as the Model 3, however, because it's "jammed to the gills" and "crazy packed." We know very little about the Model Y right now, other than the fact it will be a compact crossover smaller than the Model X and built on the Model 3's platform. Tesla Of course, the eccentric CEO has a reputation for making bold claims on Twitter, so we probably shouldn't take this as an official announcement. Then again, nobody believed Musk when he announced plans to launch a Tesla Roadster into space. A March reveal seems plausible, though. Tesla typically reveals new models around a year or two before they start production. The Model 3's production issues should also be ironed out by then, allowing Tesla to focus on the Model Y.
