All-New 2019 Dodge Viper Is Coming

May. 25, 2018 10:45 AM ET by Martin Bigg / 66 Comments Set to be unveiled at the 2019 Detroit Motor Show before hitting the streets in 2020. We were very sad to see the demise of the Dodge Viper last year, but a new report by Car and Driver claims the beloved American sports car will return from the dead in 2020, which happens to be the Viper's 30th anniversary. According to the publication, the next-generation Viper will ride on a spaceframe platform and make extensive use of aluminum and carbon fiber. The reborn Viper will reportedly retain the old car's iconic shape and will initially launch as a roadster in late 2020. FCA A coupe will then join the lineup a few years later. While the report suggests the new Viper will look familiar to longtime fans, it's a different story under the hood. The original Viper famously borrowed the 8.0-liter V10 engine developed by Lamborghini for the RAM pickup, but this will apparently be replaced with a naturally aspirated V8 unit in the new model. Nothing is official yet, but the publication suggests there will be an entry-level model packing 550 horsepower, with a range-topper arriving later in the vein of the hardcore Viper ACR powered by a second-generation Hellcat V8 developing more than 700 hp. To keep purists happy, a manual transmission will also be offered. Dodge The next-generation Dodge Viper is expected to debut at the 2019 North American International Auto Show in Detroit next January to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the original Viper concept. It will reportedly cost around $90,000 when it goes on sale around a year and a half after its public debut. Dodge Dodge Dodge
