Dodge loves to brag about how it can do the quarter mile in 9.65 seconds at 140 mph when running on high octane racing fuel. But now it has a new challenger (sorry). As reported by Dragzine, the mighty Dodge Demon recently went head-to-head against a Corvette ZR1 in an epic duel at the Richmond Dragway. But while the Demon was built to set blistering quarter-mile times and has more horsepower, it was defeated by the supercharged 755-hp Corvette ZR1. Chevrolet According to Dragzine, the ZR1 was completely stock except for its drag radial tires. It isn't known how the Demon was set up or if it was optimally equipped for the race, but it doesn't appear to be wearing skinny tires at the front. If it was properly set up, the Corvette ZR1 doesn't stand a chance in theory. The Demon's supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine produces up to 840 hp and 770 lb-ft. 0-62 mph takes just 2.3 seconds in this configuration. But even without the Direct Connection Controller equipped or running on race fuel, the Demon is a formidable machine with 808 hp and 717 lb-ft of torque. And yet it was absolutely destroyed by the Corvette ZR1. It might not be clear in the video, but according to Dragzine the Demon set a time of 11.59 seconds at 134 mph, while the Corvette ZR1 beat it with a time of 10.20 seconds at 137 mph. If both cars were properly set up, the Demon theoretically should have won - but drag racing isn't just about the car. A faster reaction time can make all the difference. In this case, the Demon had a much better start than the ZR1 but encounters some traction issues. It seems that some drivers are struggling to tame the Demon and achieve the quarter-mile times Dodge claims the car is capable of.
