Here' s Some Awesome News About The Next Ford Focus ST

While we've known for some time the next generation Ford Focus RS will utilize an updated, mild hybrid, version of the current turbocharged 2.3-liter EcoBoost, we have yet to learn specifics regarding its front-wheel drive sibling, the Focus ST. According to Autocar, the next Focus ST will also benefit from the same 2.3-liter four, replacing the outgoing model's 2.0 engine. But unlike the next Focus RS, the new Focus ST will not be a mild hybrid, instead relying on pure combustion only. CarBuzz The choice of engines for the Focus ST boiled down to the 2.3-liter or a more powerful version of the 1.5-liter three-cylinder in the new (though not for the US) Fiesta ST. Ford went with the former because it can simply offer more power, a vital factor given the competition. Autocar has also learned the new Focus ST will be more of a driver's car with an increased fun to drive factor. Not only will it weigh almost 200 pounds less than the old Focus ST, it will have a 20-percent more rigid structure. A six-speed manual will be the only gearbox option. Ford engineers have also focused heavily on suspension improvements without hurting overall ride quality. So, when will the new Focus ST be making its official debut? The original plan was to debut at the end of this year, but that's now been moved to sometime in 2019. Chances are it'll have its official premiere at Geneva next March. As for the next Focus RS, it'll arrive about a year later with around 400 hp. And yes, both hot hatches are planned for the US as well.
