2019 Chevrolet Cruze Goes All Automatic All The Time

After being on the market in its current for for only three years, the Chevrolet Cruze is completely ditching its manual options across the board, leaving enthusiasts of moderate means one less option to row their own in the compact car class. The Truth About Cars pointed out the cull on Friday, which it later confirmed with General Motors. It seems not many people were picking up the six-speed manual versions of the Cruze, so they've all been canned. GM "Manual transmissions composed 2 percent of all Cruze sales," Chevrolet spokesman Nick Morgan told TTAC in an email. Maximum fuel economy for the diesel model drops from 52 mpg to 47 mpg highway with the change. The diesel will continue on with its nine-speed automatic transmission co-developed with Ford. Even without the manual-transmission option, GM seems confident the Cruze will continue to conquest customers from other brands as it's done so far. Last year, 53% of Cruze buyers came from other brands, said Steve Majoros, marketing director for Chevrolet cars and crossovers, in a statement. The refreshed 2019 Cruze gets a new front end and styling changes for its RS Package. The rear sheet metal remains untouched.
