The F-Pace Won' t Be The Last Jaguar SUV To Get SVR Treatment

Apr. 01, 2018 12:30 PM ET by Jared Rosenholtz / 3 Comments So, which SUV will be next? Jaguar just pulled the wraps off the bonkers F-Pace SVR, the V8 beast we've been waiting for. With a 542 horsepower 5.0-liter supercharged V8, the F-Pace SVR spits in the face of other fast SUVs like the Porsche Macan Turbo. Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadri-whatlio? This looks like the new king of the hot SUV segment. We think Jaguar has hit a home run here, and it doesn't look like the brand is ready to stop. In an interview with Auto Express, Jaguar hinted that more SVR-branded SUVs could be on the way, including the possibility of a limited-run Project model. Jaguar Wayne Burgess, Jaguar Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) design director said "SUVs are the fastest growing type of car - everyone loves an SUV. We've certainly enjoyed designing SUVs that have credible Jaguar styling language with SUV packages, so I can see no reason why we couldn't do increasingly high performance halo cars with SUVs." The most likely candidate for the next SVR SUV could be the electric I-Pace. We've heard rumors of a performance-oriented I-Pace, which could be a solid rival for the Tesla Model X P100D. No mention was made of a smaller E-Pace SVR, though we can't imagine what engine Jaguar would use to power it. Jaguar's main concern is figuring out how to deliver the SVR experience on an all-electric model. "We are looking at how best to interpret the SVR concept on electric cars," Hanno Kirner, Jaguar Land Rover's executive director for corporate strategy said. "We haven't decided yet with I-Pace but with every car we do it is possible." SVO doesn't just mean performance. "Don't forget it's not just SVR our SVO team creates, but also SVA for the plushier cars and SVX for more off-road interpretations. We could do an electric car that's an SVA and we really do think there is the space for a performance electric car." Kirner added. So far, we're loving everything we've seen from Jaguar Land Rover's SVO Division. Whether it is a plush luxury version of a performance model, we can't wait to see what comes next from these guys.
