General Motors still refuses to acknowledge the car's existence, despite the mounting evidence from leaked insider information and test mules being spotted. But if this latest rumor is to be believed, we may now know exactly when the new Corvette will enter production. According to Auto Forecast Solutions via GM Authority, the next-generation C8 Corvette will begin production a year from now in September 2019. Previous reports have suggested the C8 Corvette will enter production in 2019 to launch as a 2020 model, so this seems feasible. The car is expected to debut much earlier, however, as rumors suggest the mid-engine Corvette will break cover at the 2019 Detroit Auto Show early next year. Chevrolet Auto Forecast Solutions also added that the C7 Corvette will cease production in August 2019 to make way for the mid-engine Corvette, though it still isn't clear whether GM will sell initially both the C7 and C8 Corvettes at the same time. However, thanks to a major investment and retooling, GM's Kentucky plant is now capable of producing both the existing and next-generation Corvette at the same time. A recent trademark filing also suggests the new Corvette could be called the Zora as a nod to the original model's father Zora Arkus-Duntov. It's been a long time coming, but the rumored specifications suggest the mid-engine Corvette will be well worth the agonizing wait. Allegedly, the base model will feature 4.2-liter twin-turbo V8 with around 650 hp, while the range-topping version will reportedly use a twin-turbo 5.5-liter V8 that produces 850 hp.
